The Vogel Method · Since 1991

Myofascial Release

The tight, pulling, restricted feeling that stretching never quite reaches often lives in the fascia, the connective tissue that wraps your muscles. Myofascial release is slow, hands-on work that helps those areas soften and ease so you can move more freely. Delivered by therapists trained in manual therapy across three clinics in Chicago's western suburbs.

What Brings You In

Concerns Myofascial Release Treats

Firm, bound-down areas that can form as the body heals after liposuction, a BBL, or a tummy tuck. Once your surgeon has cleared you, myofascial release helps soften those areas and free up the tissue around them.

The NLC Experience

Why patients choose NLC.

Founder Sharon M. Vogel has spent more than three decades devoted to lymphatic drainage. A Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Lymphedema Therapist and Board-Certified in Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (LMT, CLT, BCTMB), she developed the Vogel Method and founded National Lymphatic Centers in 1991. Today her team of certified therapists carries that same standard across three clinics in Chicago's western suburbs: Hinsdale, Downers Grove and Joliet.

Honest Scope

When myofascial release isn't the right first call

Contraindications: we refer you on

Some conditions are outside our scope, and we will refer you.

  • • We do not treat clients with AFib, COPD, emphysema, blood clots, or active infection
  • • These are outside our scope of care
  • • For a lymphatic emergency we guide you to a hospital lymphedema clinic with emergency care on site
  • • This is appropriate scope of practice, not a hedge

For post-surgical work, your surgeon clears you first

After surgery, your surgeon clears you before we begin.

  • • We provide conservative manual therapy and do not perform surgery
  • • For scar tissue and fibrosis after a procedure, your surgeon's clearance always comes first
  • • We follow the timing your surgeon gives and build the plan around it
  • • We start light and increase as the tissue is ready

We screen at your first visit

Every session opens with a health review before we begin.

  • • Each visit at our Hinsdale, Downers Grove, and Joliet clinics starts with a health review
  • • If your medical history changes, we pause and re-screen before the next session
  • • If a different path is the better start, your therapist says so at intake
Myofascial Release Process

How a myofascial release session runs.

Nothing happens without your say so. Sessions follow your anatomy and your condition, so no two plans look the same. Every plan starts with an assessment, because everyone is different.

Step 01 · Assess
Review and assessment before any work begins.

For recovery work, your therapist starts with your surgeon's guidance. They feel where the tissue has tightened and where it still moves freely, so the plan targets what is actually there. Your first visit includes this assessment before the hands-on work, so plan a little extra time.

  • • A read of where the tissue has tightened and where it still moves

Not sure if myofascial release is what you need?

That is a fair question, and we would rather answer it honestly than book you blindly. Call us, tell us where the tightness or restriction is and how long it has been there, and we will say plainly whether MFR can help. For post-surgical work we will ask about your surgeon's clearance first. If it can help, we will get you in at the clinic nearest you: Hinsdale, Downers Grove, or Joliet.
