Lymphedema Measurements
When a limb has been swollen for a while, it is hard to know if the swelling is actually coming down or just having a good day. Careful, consistent limb measurements give you an objective baseline and show whether your care is holding the swelling steady over time. Delivered by Vogel Method-trained therapists across three clinics in Chicago's western suburbs.

Concerns Lymphedema Measurements Treats
Persistent swelling from a lymphatic system that cannot drain on its own. For a condition you manage over time, measurements turn progress into something you can see, so the plan can be steered by real numbers.
View Concern →A baseline before anything
Your first set captures where the limb is at the start, so progress is measured
Proof the plan is holding
Repeat measurements show whether the swelling is staying controlled between sessions
An early signal
If a limb starts to increase again, the numbers catch it before it becomes obvious
A record to share
A clear picture of limb volume over time for your physician or surgeon
Why patients choose NLC.
Founder Sharon M. Vogel has spent more than three decades devoted to lymphatic drainage. A Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Lymphedema Therapist and Board-Certified in Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (LMT, CLT, BCTMB), she developed the Vogel Method and founded National Lymphatic Centers in 1991. Today her team of certified therapists carries that same standard across three clinics in Chicago's western suburbs: Hinsdale, Downers Grove and Joliet.
What measurement is, and what it isn't
We measure and track, we do not diagnose
We measure and track; a physician makes the diagnosis.
- • We provide conservative lymphatic care and do not diagnose lymphedema
- • A physician makes that diagnosis, and we do not perform surgery
- • If a physician has diagnosed you, bring that information to your first visit
- • We build the tracking around it
Contraindications: we refer you on
Some conditions are outside our scope, and we will refer you.
- • Lymphatic work is not right for everyone
- • We do not perform this work on AFib, COPD, emphysema, blood clots, or active infection
- • These are outside our scope of care
- • A severe or acutely infected limb belongs at a hospital lymphedema clinic with emergency care on site
Measurement sits inside your care
Measurement happens within your assessment and ongoing sessions.
- • Measurements are part of your care, taken within your assessment and sessions
- • We are a self-pay clinic and provide an itemized superbill for your insurer
- • Current session options and prices are on our pricing page
How measurement fits into your care.
Measurements are part of your lymphatic care, which is why they start at your very first assessment and repeat through the plan. Nothing happens without your say so, and we measure the same way every time so the comparison stays trustworthy.
Your first visit includes a health review, an assessment of how the limb is holding fluid, and that first baseline set of measurements, so plan a little extra time for it. Everything afterward is read against that starting point.

Want to know where your limb actually stands?
That is a fair thing to want, and measuring is how we answer it honestly. Call us, tell us what the limb has been doing, and we will start with a baseline set of measurements at your assessment so you have real numbers to steer by. If our care is the right fit, we will get you in at the clinic nearest you: Hinsdale, Downers Grove, or Joliet.
